Both are for driving traffic to your blog.
Social media is another source,
Search Engine is other source.
In search you need to rank, then you get traffic.
(Google update happens only on Google)
It wont impact facebook and Instagram.
Social media traffic means, you are sharing content on social media, and people are coming on your platform from social media.
So Update has no relation with social media.
